Serbia’s Candidacy for Membership in the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

The Republic of Serbia’s candidacy for membership in the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) was formally presented during the 69th session of the Committee, held in Vienna from 10 to 18 June.

The Committee endorsed the Republic of Serbia’s application for membership by consensus, paving the way for its consideration at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in accordance with established UN procedures.

This decision marks an important milestone in Serbia’s path toward membership in the Committee and reflects the country’s growing international profile in the fields of science, innovation, and advanced technologies. At the same time, it underscores the international community’s confidence in Serbia’s potential to serve as an active and responsible partner in shaping the future of international cooperation in the space sector.

Member States were presented with Serbia’s vision for the development of space technologies, the space economy, scientific research, and international cooperation, as well as its commitment to actively contributing to global efforts aimed at the peaceful use of outer space and the application of space technologies for the benefit of society and sustainable economic development.
